We just returned from a live aboard sailing education. At the end we had passed the requirements for ASA 101,103 and 104. We’re preparing for retirement and this class gave us an excellent grounding in the basics and enough confidence to move forward with our plans. The captain brought years of experience to the table along with a calm and confident demeanor. Only one of the three of us had ever been on a sailboat and the captain took the time to work through every aspect of sailing with us. Each of us got to practice each maneuver and go over it again if we had difficulty. The sailing was a good live aboard experience with a wide range of wind and weather conditions, staying at a different marina nearly every night and enjoying a bit of the flavor and nightlife at each one. Our materials were shipped to us quickly in Colorado and communication with was easy with prompt responses. We all discovered that we enjoy sailing, and now we’ll move on to chartering boats and gaining more experience.
We just wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed our sailing class – and most certainly all the teaching and guidance from the captain. We had a great week exploring sailing. Our captain was knowledgeable, personable, and very patient with newbies like us! Can’t thank you enough for helping the two of us with an incredibly fun, informative, and enjoyable introduction to what we hope will be many future years of sailing.
My fiancé and I just finished our first charter on a Beneteau. We spent nights in fantastic destinations and picked up a mooring ball, spent a beautiful night at anchor, and got a chance to dock bow first, stern first, and alongside. I just wanted to thank you for all the instruction, and how serious you took the process; as a result, I felt prepared for the sailing, navigation, maneuvering, and dealing with mechanical issues. I thought the responsibility would have been unnerving, but it turned out to be very rewarding and extremely fun. Hope you're enjoying the summer. See ya on the water.
Thought you'd be interested in knowing that we completed our first bareboat charter this past week and everything went very well. Thanks to the great training we've received through your school we were a confident capable crew. We went with a Catalina, and it was a great boat for two couples. Hope all is well with you!
We wanted to reach out to thank you for the classes we took in March. My friend and I signed up for ASA 101, 103 & 104 combination classes at Virgin Islands Sailing Academy.

The whole experience far exceeded our expectations by combining an enriching learning-to-sail environment with visits to the most beautiful destinations throughout the US and British Virgin Islands! Our instructor was very knowledgeable and took so much time on the water and in the classroom with us, going over different sailing concepts, and making sure everyone grasped them. The boat was in great condition, each night the air-conditioning was run keeping it very comfortable, even after a hot day! Our visits to all the Island destinations were great, and our instructor showed us around recommending dining options, and activities that we enjoyed.

The skills we learned on that trip have served as a great foundation in our sailing today. In May I completed ASA 106 Advanced Coastal Cruising, which I felt very well prepared for. More recently, the skills I learned in Virgin Islands Sailing Academy's classes helped me get crew positions on a 38' Catalina and a 36' Beneteau that I have been racing on all summer.

In May I crewed in the Figawi and Newport Leukemia cup races, and in June I went on a week-long trip joining a four-person crew sailing a 42' Wetsail from Cape Canaveral to Annapolis. All have been really great experiences! Last weekend I was part of a four-person crew that brought a 46' Oyster from Maine to Nantucket. I am also part of a crew preparing for the Newport Bermuda race June 2020, and looking forward to it.

We can't emphasize our appreciation enough for the excellent content and format of your classes, the great condition of your boat, the high level of professionalism throughout the booking process and classes, and the high quality of your instructors. The classes we took with Virgin Island Sailing Academy brought us from beginners to being valued crew members sailing locally and offshore, thank you!
